NSC announces first Continuing Ed Writing Contest

If you wrote a piece in any of my 2018 writing classes, you’re eligible to enter the North Seattle College first annual Continuing Education Writing Contest!

All submissions must be work completed in CE writing classes between January 2018 and December 2018.

Categories include short fiction, long fiction, nonfiction, visual storytelling, and poetry.

Winners will be invited to read their work at CE’s Writers Salon Event to be held in mid-March of 2019.

Submission opens Dec. 1, 2018 and closes Jan. 15, 2019.

Winter 2018 Continuing Ed/Training Classes

Easy Steps to Great Grammar (3 sessions)

Mondays, Feb. 28-March 11
North Seattle College, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $99

Confused about grammar and punctuation? This fun, hands-on class will help you master the latest rules, avoid common errors, and write with confidence. We’ll cover apostrophes, verb tense, word usage, subject/verb agreement, commas/semicolons, style guides, how to avoid the 10 most common grammar and punctuation mistakes, and more. Freelance Writing for Fun & Profit (2 sessions)

Mondays, Feb. 25-March 4
North Seattle College, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $99

Make money, influence others, and express yourself with freelance writing! Learn to write compelling stories for magazines, blogs, websites, and more. This fun, hands-on class takes you step-by-step through the writing/publishing process, from getting ideas to cashing your checks. Write Night: Join us anytime!

Join Chris and fiction instructor Leslie Hall for Write Night, a weekly facilitated writer’s support class. Get regular feedback and create a support system for your writing life.  Write Night can become your built-in deadline and will help you write more, high-quality manuscripts.

Write Night meets Thursdays, 6:15-8:30 p.m., at the Richmond Masonic Hall, N. 185th St. & Linden Ave. N. (just a block west of Hwy 99) in Shoreline.

Sign up for a six-week session for just $90. Or drop in anytime for $20/class.

Fall 2 session: Nov. 1 – Dec. 13 (6 weeks, no class on Thanksgiving), $90.

After Dec. 13, Write Night will be taking a break until January.

About Chris

Christine DuboisChristine Dubois is an award-winning writer and editor who has published more than 450 articles in 45 different magazines and newspapers. She teaches writing at North Seattle College as well as for local businesses. Her warmth, knowledge, and enthusiasm make her a popular instructor.

Dubois has successfully tackled writing projects of all types, including articles, websites, ad copy, resumes, appeal letters, advertising copy, press releases, brochures, curriculum, scripts, reports, book editing, publicity campaigns, and more.

Her professional experience includes: 10 years as Communications Director for The South 47 Farm, senior editor for View Publishing at Group Health Cooperative, assignment editor at KING-TV News, and more than 20 years as a freelance writer.

She is co-author, together with her husband, Steven E. Bourne, of “Waiting in Hope: Meditations for Expectant Parents.”

Dubois has a degree in Communications from the University of Washington and has received numerous awards from professional communications groups for excellence in writing, editing, and photography. She is a member of the National Writer’s Union.
